This half-day online session offers an in-depth understanding of acne, covering its causes, differential diagnosis and treatment strategies.
We will explore first and second-line treatments for acne, including topical and systemic therapies.
You will learn when isotretinoin should be the first-line option or used after other treatments fail, along with essential guidelines for individuals requiring contraception while taking isotretinoin.
Our presenters will cover dosing, duration, necessary blood tests, managing side effects, including isotretinoin-induced flares, asteotosis, dyslipidaemia and managing recurrences post-treatment. The issue of isotretinoin and mood disorders will be fully examined.
We will discuss referrals to dermatologists, review case studies, and end with a Q&A session.
By the end of the course, you should be confident in managing acne, including the use of isotretinoin.

Paul is a dermatologist working at Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau and at The University of Auckland. He is an Honorary Associate Professor at the Universities of Auckland and Otago.

Bruce Arroll
Bruce spends two days per week in clinical practice working at the Calder Clinic at the City Mission 140 Hobson Street after being in Manurewa for 32 years. The rest of his time is spent at the Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care at the School of Population Health at the University of Auckland. He became the director of the Goodfellow Unit in 2014.
His current research interest is in rapid non-drug treatments of mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.

Louise Kuegler
Louise is an experienced Specialist General Practitioner who is passionate about women’s hormonal health, especially in the midlife. She holds Fellowship from the Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners, Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Australasian Nutritional and Environmental Medicine qualifications.
Louise is a passionate teacher at the University of Auckland. She is a long standing member of the Goodfellow Education team at the university, and has released over 100 continuing medical education podcasts for primary care. She has been involved in many webinars, education days and conferences.
Having completed the International Menopause Society training, and a member of the Australasian Menopause Society, Louise is up to date with the latest evidence based care for midlife women and provides a holistic approach to their care.
