Whilst a common finding in primary care, optimal treatment is often NOT achieved.
To effect optimum hypertension management, we need to consider blood pressure in the context of cardiovascular risk and other co-morbidities.
Hypertension specialist Dr Hari Talreja will discuss the most relevant aspects of hypertension management in this latest update, including treatment threshold, goals of treatment and alternative antihypertensive regimes now that cilazapril with hydrochlorothiazide is no longer funded.

I am a Consultant Renal Physician with Counties Manukau Health, Auckland. My basic training is from Mumbai, India. I have completed advanced training from University of Ottawa, Canada. I have fellowships in Hypertension and Renal Transplantation. I am certified by the American Society of Hypertension as a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension. Also, I am pursuing Masters in Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health, Boston.
At Middlemore Hospital, I am the Clinical Lead for Renal Transplantation, Hypertension and dialysis software program, Clinical Vision implementation. I started the Hypertension Clinic at Counties Manukau Health in 2014, and have been upskilling one of the nurses interested in Hypertension. With MPH, I am planning to conduct clinical research in this field.
