Talking about sex: Addressing sexual difficulties with your patients

Research has supported the importance of sexual and emotional intimacy for both physical and psychological wellbeing and difficulties with sex can negatively impact on individuals and their relationships. Prevalence rates for sexual dysfunction are high yet many factors can impact on both patients and practitioners in terms of raising these issues.

Allyson is a clinical psychologist and a regional director of Sex Therapy New Zealand, an organisation specialising in the treatment of sexual and emotional intimacy concerns.

In this webinar Allyson will discuss:

  • “Having the conversation”. Developing confidence as a health practitioner in talking about sex and sex related health issues with your patient.
  • Frameworks for addressing sexual problems from a biopsychosocial perspective.
  • Assessment of sexual difficulties in a primary care context.
  • The role of sex therapy.
  • Combined medical and psychological approaches to treatment.
