Wayne is Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology at the Liggins Institute, University of Auckland and a member of the Paediatric Endocrinology team at Starship Hospital. He is previous Director of the Liggins Institute and previous Director of A Better Start National Science Challenge. He established the paediatric endocrinology service in Auckland which now provides a regional paediatric endocrinology service with outreach tertiary support to centres across New Zealand. He has >320 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet. He was featured in The Lancet Perspectives in 2015. His research awards include: the Peter Gluckman Medal for distinguished contribution to research (University of Auckland), the Norman Wettenhall medal in research and innovation (Australia and NZ Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes) and the Howard Williams medal for outstanding contribution to improving the health of children and young people in Australia and/or Aotearoa New Zealand (the Royal Australasian College of Physicians). His research interests include the early origin of health and disease and the role of the gut microbiome in our health and well-being.
