Gut microbiome

Wayne is a Professor of Paediatric Endocrinology at the Liggins Institute and a Practising paediatric endocrinologist at Starship Children's Hospital. His current focus areas of research are:

• The role of the microbiome in health and disease including microbiome human treatment in adolescents and young adults with trials in metabolic syndrome and obesity, autism and anorexia nervosa.
• Investigating early life (fetal and infancy) environmental factors that affect childhood metabolism (obesity and diabetes), growth and development in ways that could lead to chronic conditions in adult life.
• Understanding the epidemiology of childhood obesity and investigating interventions that could prevent or treat obesity.
• Strategic frameworks that translate research findings to policy and practice to improve child wellbeing outcomes
