Organ Donation and Enduring Power of Attorney

Te Whatu Ora presents Te Tiri Whakāro: Sharing Knowledge, a webinar series to support primary care.
This webinar is about the ins and outs of organ donation and some practical tips on Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA).

  • The national strategy for Assisted Dying Donation (ADD). ADD is legal in Aotearoa, NZ, where we are the seventh country to have supported patients and their whānau's wishes to donate their organs and tissues after an assisted death. Dr Kim Grayson will be talking about assisted dying, organ donation and organ donation after assisted dying.
  • EPA is a legal document where your patient, whilst mentally capable, gives someone else the power to act for them if they become “mentally incapable” and lose the ability to make significant decisions for themselves. Your clinical opinion can provide useful information to inform whether the certifying witness for an EPA can be satisfied that your patient has the capacity to make an EPA. Dr Ngaire Kerse covers what you need to do, including what to cover in a letter.
  • Clinical Updates with Dr Sue Tutty.

As always, we will answer as many questions as possible during this session.
