From 1 October 2024 CGMs are funded for people with type 1 diabetes and other specific forms of diabetes. The funded devices include: a range of CGMs; two brands of insulin pumps and automated insulin delivery (AID) system algorithms; the associated pump consumables.

Great if all eligible whānau could have a script and special authority done for CGM.
Technical support and troubleshooting for patients is provided by manufacturers.
This is a big incentive for those who may have previously given up on insulin pumps.
Primary care has a big role in referring people to secondary care.

Ryan Paul

Endocrinologist and Diabetologist

Ryan is an endocrinologist at Te Whatu Ora Waikato and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Waikato. He is also an honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland and a Clinical Associate of the Maurice Wilkins Centre. He is the Immediate Past-President of the New Zealand Society of Endocrinology (NZSE) and is an Executive Member of the New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes (NZSSD). Ryan has created the Advanced Diabetes Management Course for all health professionals in Primary Care and was awarded the NZ Medical Educator of the year in 2019.
