Presenter Guidelines
As a speaker, you play a significant role in the success of this event. This guide is to help you prepare for the Symposium at the Due Drop Events Centre. The theme is ‘Skills for next Monday’ so please focus on information that general practitioners, nurses, and nurse practitioners can use at their next clinic.
Send us your presentation
- First rename your PowerPoint PPT file: Day_Date_Time_SpeakerName (e.g. Sat_22_0935_JohnSmith)
- Upload your presentation to this Dropbox link no later than Friday 7 March: https://www.dropbox.com/request/mOEJuKYNNn1BPPevyjfz
(This allows time for the AV technicians to sort all presentations and ensure these are readily available in the room you’re presenting in)
If you miss the Dropbox deadline, please bring your slides on a USB drive in PC format to your session room at least 2 hours before your presentation. A reminder, if you are a Mac user and wish to bring your own laptop, you will need to bring your adaptor so it can be plugged into the AV system.
Speaker Permissions and Presentation PDF Copies
We would like to include a copy of your presentation in PDF format on the Symposium website after the event. If you grant us your permission, please upload a copy of your presentation in PDF format via the Dropbox link above. If you do not wish for your presentation to be distributed on the website after the event, please email [email protected]
Presentation considerations
It is suggested you will have 35 minutes for your presentation, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.
Your 35-minute presentation could include examples of clinical cases from general practitioners and nurses’ observations, through to the management of cases.
Ideal case examples could be ones regularly referred to you by general practitioners. This may include areas where processes could be improved to maximise a patient's experience and outcomes. Please consider what the key take-home points for the audience should be. Three to five points are ideal. Information the audience needs to know rather than nice to know, i.e., avoid slides of enzyme pathways.
Preparing your presentation
Slides
- Size: 16:9 ratio.
- Short engaging PowerPoints are recommended.
- Use as little text as possible; one slide, one point.
- Include images and photos, graphs and infographics but ensure they will be visually clear from the back of an auditorium.
- Presenters will share slides via a laptop in the room. You will have full control of your slides.
Presentation equipment
- The venue is equipped with a laptop and data projector, and you will have the choice of a lectern, lapel, or handheld microphone. If you require any other equipment, please advise us at [email protected]
- If you are a Mac user and wish to bring your laptop, you will need to bring your adaptor so it can be plugged into the AV system. Please allow yourself extra time for this.
Presentation content – video and audio media files
- Please advise if you have any audio or videos embedded into your presentation. The AV technicians can ensure that these play smoothly.
- As backup, please send your media files separately and in advance to [email protected] with an outline of the slide number they correspond to.
Practice, practice, practice We can’t stress this enough!
It's also important that your presentation sticks to your allocated time.
